HILOWAVE vs Revive vs regular water glow—what’s the difference?

SKIN BOOSTER FOR RADIANT SKIN

It’s the same hyaluronic acid, so why are the results different? — The difference created by cross-linking

💡 At a glance
· All three are based on hyaluronic acid (HA), but they differ in the degree of “cross-linking” that binds HA molecules together and in their design.
· Regular water glow (non-cross-linked HA): immediate hydration and glow, with results lasting only a few weeks, so repeat treatments are assumed.
· Revive (Belotero Revive): designed with cross-linked HA plus glycerol, with moisture improvement reported even after a single treatment and lasting for several months.
· HILOWAVE: a composite design combining high-molecular-weight and low-molecular-weight HA, aiming to improve hydration along with elasticity and natural volume.
· In one line: immediate event-ready glow = regular water glow, long-lasting hydration and skin texture = Revive, deeper dryness plus elasticity and volume = HILOWAVE.

They’re all called “water glow injections,” so why is it confusing?

The key difference is not the ingredient but the “cross-linking” (a process that binds HA molecules together to slow breakdown). Hyaluronic acid in the dermis naturally breaks down very quickly, with a half-life of less than a day (Fraser et al., 1997, Journal of Internal Medicine). That is why non-cross-linked HA disappears quickly, while cross-linked HA remains longer. This one design difference changes the duration, number of treatments, and felt effect.

What is regular water glow injection (non-cross-linked HA)?

Regular water glow injection (non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid, skin booster injection) is a method in which non-cross-linked HA is densely injected into the shallow dermal layer with an injector. Its advantage is immediacy, with hydration and radiance improving right after injection; however, because it breaks down quickly, a series of about three treatments at 2–4 week intervals is standard. In a randomized controlled study by Baspeyras et al. (2013, Archives of Dermatological Research), injecting non-cross-linked HA three times at one-month intervals improved skin firmness index (E1) by about 10.9%, and the effect remained three months after the final treatment.

What is Revive (Belotero Revive)?

Revive (Belotero Revive, CPM-HA20G) is a product from Merz in Germany, a skin booster that combines 20 mg/mL of cross-linked HA with 17.5 mg/mL of the moisturizing ingredient glycerol. In a multicenter randomized clinical trial of 159 participants (Kerscher et al., 2021, PRS Global Open), hydration improved at all follow-up points in the dry-skin group, and the three-treatment group showed a statistically significant improvement at week 16 (P=0.0013). A recent study (Luna et al., 2025, Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology) also found that after one treatment, stratum corneum hydration increased by an average of 14.9%, and by 16.6% after two treatments.

What is HILOWAVE?

HILOWAVE (dual HA skin booster) is a French non-animal HA composite product containing both high-molecular-weight and low-molecular-weight HA. It was approved as a Class 4 medical device by Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and introduced in 2025. Because it is designed to minimize injection points, it tends to involve less concern about pain, bumps, and downtime, and it can be planned as a single-treatment unit. The maintenance period is generally described as about 3–6 months.

Which treatment is right for me?

If you need immediate glow before an event or shoot, regular water glow is reasonable. If you’re worried about deep dryness and rough skin texture and want results that last for several months after one treatment, Revive is a better fit. If you also see reduced elasticity or early loss of volume, or if pain is a concern, you may want to consider HILOWAVE first. If your stay in Korea is short, Revive or HILOWAVE, which can be designed as a one-time treatment, is a practical option.

Diore clinical principle

In our clinic, we first look at skin hydration, elasticity, and the patient’s schedule. At Diore, we believe that treatment design—how much to inject and into which layer—determines the outcome more than the product name, so we plan by dividing the dosage by area.

Frequently asked questions (Q&A)

Q1. Which lasts longer, Revive or regular water glow?

By design, Revive lasts longer. While the combination of cross-linked HA and glycerol has shown hydration improvement for up to 36 weeks, regular water glow is a treatment repeated every few weeks.

Q2. Does HILOWAVE work even if I get it just once?

Yes, it can be designed as a single-session treatment. Hydration and radiance are felt within days after the procedure, and changes in elasticity and volume continue over 2–3 weeks.

Q3. I’m only staying in Korea for a short time—can I still get a water glow injection once?

Revive or HILOWAVE can be designed as a one-time treatment, making them suitable for short-term stays. If you pre-determine the area and dosage through a consultation before your visit, it can be completed in one appointment.

Closing

If immediacy matters, consider regular water glow first; if lasting power is the priority, consider Revive; if you want both hydration and elasticity, consider HILOWAVE. That said, we recommend making the final decision after a skin assessment.
