Planning to have vision correction surgery in Korea?
Whether you are considering SMILE pro or ICL, preparing in advance can make your experience smoother and help you make a more informed decision.
Here are seven things to prepare before visiting an eye clinic in Korea.

1. Choose an Eye Clinic and Schedule Your Appointment
Before traveling to Korea, choose an eye clinic that offers the procedure you are considering, such as SMILE pro or ICL, and schedule your examination in advance.
If you are traveling from overseas, check the clinic's consultation and interpretation services, and allow enough time for a detailed eye examination before surgery.
2. Check How Long You Need to Stop Wearing Contact Lenses
If you are considering same-day surgery, make sure to stop wearing your contact lenses in advance.
As a general guideline, please avoid wearing:
Soft contact lenses: at least 5 days
Hard contact lenses: at least 7 days
Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) lenses: at least 30 days
During this period, wear glasses instead.
3. Take Care of Your Eyes and Prevent Dryness
Dry eyes can make accurate vision measurements more difficult and may affect your comfort before and after surgery.
Before your examination, pay attention to your eye health by using preservative-free artificial tears when needed, taking breaks from prolonged screen use, and avoiding environments that can make your eyes excessively dry.
4. Bring a Hat and Sunglasses
After eye surgery, protecting your eyes from strong sunlight and ultraviolet (UV) exposure can be helpful during the recovery period.
If you are traveling around Korea after your procedure, bring a hat and a pair of UV-protective sunglasses with you.
If you are planning to travel immediately after surgery, ask your clinic about the recommended recovery period and any precautions for sightseeing, outdoor activities, swimming, and other activities.

5. Plan Enough Time for the Examination & Surgery
If you are traveling to Korea specifically for eye surgery, allow enough time for a detailed examination and consultation.
Depending on your eye condition and the procedure, surgery may or may not be possible on the same day.
A follow-up examination is required the day after surgery, so please make sure to plan your travel itinerary accordingly and allow enough time to stay in Korea for your post-operative check-up.
6. Prepare for the Day of Surgery
On the day of surgery, please avoid using perfume, hair spray, or other strongly scented products, as the laser equipment can be sensitive to airborne particles and fragrances.
We also recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing on the day of your procedure.
7. Prepare Your Questions in Advance
Before your consultation, make a list of questions about the procedure, recovery period, follow-up care, and what to expect after surgery. If you are visiting Korea from overseas, it is also helpful to check whether interpretation or English-language consultation is available.
Most importantly, don't feel that you have to decide on SMILE Pro or ICL before your examination. The purpose of the examination is to determine which option is appropriate for your individual eyes.
Prepare well, get a thorough examination, and choose the vision correction procedure that best suits your eyes.
